Xperia Z4 frame leaks: Confirms small design changes and cap-less microUSB charging
Pictures of supposed parts for the upcoming Sony Xperia Z4 have leaked. The pictures come from the same source that presented alleged front panel pictures of the Xperia Z4 last November. This time we get a good look at the Xperia Z4 chassis and how it compares to the Xperia Z3.
The pictures confirm that the Sony Xperia Z4 will continue to use the OmniBalance design, with hardly any changes in the frame versus the Xperia Z3. What we can see is that the micro USB port is now exposed, confirming cap-less micro USB charging as seen with the recently announced Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia Z4 Tablet.
The micro USB port now sits at the bottom of the handset, rather than on the side like it has done for all previous Xperia Z series flagships. The Xperia Z4 microphone is also located on the bottom, adjacent to the USB port, rather than the side as it appeared on the Xperia Z3.
Other changes include the absence of magnetic charging pins, which is perhaps no surprise now that cap-less charging is supported. However, some may still bemoan its absence if the Xperia Z4 does not end up supporting wireless charging.
As a result of this, the Xperia Z4 will only have one port flap (most likely to house both the micro SD and nano SIM slots), keeping the sides of the handset very streamlined. The dimensions of both frames are said to be very similar, supporting the theory that the Xperia Z4 will most likely have a similar 5.2-inch display. However, thickness has been reduced by 1mm pointing to an even lighter flagship.
