Virtual keyboard on the Moto 360

On the heels of Minuum’s decision to bring its virtual keyboard to the Moto 360, we had to ask ourselves – do we really need a keyboard on a smart watch?

According to Minuum, “for smart watches to truly be smart, they need a keyboard.” The popular keyboard app maker argues that you can’t always rely on voice for data input. Noisy environments, meetings and private message replies just don’t cut it. For those situations your best bet is to forget about the watch and use your smartphone, instead.

Minuum sees things differently. They want you to rely more on your watch than on the phone. I’m not sure I fully agree with their assessments but I like options. Perhaps I end-up using their smart watch keyboard every 1 out of 10 times; that should still make their app a valuable addition to the watch.

So yes – I like what Minuum is doing despite not seeing myself typing messages on my wrist. However, I’m not sure I would be willing to pay for a smart watch keyboard.

Anyway, Minuum has been working really hard to bring its product to all sorts of places, including the Omate TrueSmart and Galaxy Gear smart watches, and even Google Glass. They’re on the roll and we like that. ;)
